Opportunity Peterborough (OP) is a private not-for-profit company limited by guarantee. Its remit is to act as an economic development company for the local authority area of Peterborough City, supporting local business, encouraging new investment, and driving the skills and positive marketing of Peterborough. Its core funding is purely from Peterborough City Council, which covers staff salaries, rental and any other overheads. Any additional funding, secured from projects, other services, etc is all directed back into the operation of the company and its functions in accordance with its not-for-profit status.
OP has a successful long-term track record in managing projects, especially in the environment sector thanks to its high-skilled staff, broad range of expertise, and the ability to work collaboratively even with multicultural partners and strategic partnership with the UK Centre for Economic & Environmental Development (UK CEED) whose team and projects came under the remit of Opportunity Peterborough in April 2013. OP currently coordinates a major pan-European Eco-innovation Cluster Partnership (EcoCluP) for the European Commission; a platform for eco-innovation cluster managers from across Europe to share ideas and best practice and to improve the level of innovation and global competitiveness amongst the cluster’s eco-innovative businesses; some 3,500 SMEs. OP, in partnership with Anglian Water, manage the Water Innovation Network (WIN), a regional cluster which aims at driving innovation within the water industry supply chain by encouraging supply chain companies to address challenges faced by water utility companies through product and service development. WIN also dovetails with a second EC-funded project called INNOWATER; a platform for supporting water sector supply chain companies and industrial end-users of water to support innovation and water efficiency across Europe. Another project called High Growth Business Support Programme aimed at helping the high growth business sector within the Greater Peterborough Area through tailored individual support including searching for grants, optimising cash flow, revising and planning their business strategy, coaching through challenging times.
OP will use its innovation and SMEs engagement experience within the consortium to develop initiatives to improve integration across partners in the water industry. This will be delivered by collaborating with the Consortium members with a proactive attitude and through building positive synergies.
Specifically, a Joint Action Plan will be defined aiming at:
