ZINNAE, urban cluster for water efficiency was founded in Zaragoza, Spain, in 2010. Seventeen entities from local and regional public authorities, research and educational centres and business entities from the water market based in Zaragoza became founder members of ZINNAE, which was formed as a non-lucrative association. At the moment ZINNAE has 27 members (68% business; 12% RTD Centres; 8% public authorities and 12% other relevant actors).
ZINNAE was born from a working group headed by various local business entities, a private foundation and Zaragoza’s City Council. They worked together to develop a Strategic Plan 2010-2013 where thirteen potential collaborating initiatives were identified.
ZINNAE is managed through an executive secretary, leaded in the beginning by Ecology and Development Foundation -founder member of the cluster. Since January 2012 ZINNAE has two people working in the association as cluster manager and projects manager. 2012 ZINNAE Action Plan gathers the following types of activities: Members dynamism, Cluster projects, ZINNAE communication and corporative image, Internalization and Cluster management. Two collaborating initiatives have been launched in
2011 and will continue in 2012: Zero Park (a project to develop a water and energy efficient urban green area as a living lab for innovation in green areas segment in the city) and Urban Hidrogeology (a project to develop an integrated information system of the urban aquifer in Zaragoza).
